You don’t have let the cares of the world ruin your life by allowing worry and fear to get a stronghold in your thinking!
The Scripture teaches us to be proactive when it comes to cares and concerns. You don’t have to be held hostage by negative emotions.
“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.” —James 1:2-3
Notice he said count it all joy when, not if—meaning you will have trials. Trials are defined as conflicts, sufferings and troubles—anything that would try your faith, your patience or rob you of your joy.
Joy and trials are not two words you would expect to be found in the same sentence. But we are instructed to count it all joy when. That means during the trial. Most of the time, that’s the last thing you want to do!
Praising God in the midst of a trial causes you to grow and improve as you go through the experience. You can come out on the other side better than when you began. Instead of being a victim, you can come out a victor.
Some people become bitter and disheartened because they haven’t learned to count it all joy. Instead of overcoming and getting better with every challenge, they are just barely surviving and living to tell about it. God’s will for us is to be victorious overcomers, not just survivors. Victory in life is yours, but it’s not automatic.
“… And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.” —1 John 5:4 (NKJV)
Faith is the victory, according to the Apostle John, and there’s no better way to release faith than praise. You can’t praise God and doubt God at the same time. Victory is released through praise. You may be facing situations where there’s no evidence of victory, and therefore, no motivation to praise God whatsoever. However, you have all the evidence you’ll ever need in the Bible.
Look at the following scriptures in the New Testament that promise victory:
“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” —1 John 4:4
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” —Revelation 12:11
“Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.” —2 Corinthians 2:14
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” —Philippians 4:13
When trials come and you’re tempted to give up and quit, remember, God’s will for you is victory. You are an overcomer, and you have the victory!
