Unlocking the Power of Your Rights in Christ
Do you understand your rights and privileges in Christ? Jesus said, “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Luke 10:19
We’ve been given authority over all the power of the enemy.
Consider this: A traffic cop who is standing in the middle of an intersection can command a large motor vehicle to pull over or stop with a simple wave of their hand. This illustrates authority being exercised over power. The officer’s authority surpasses the vehicle’s power because it’s backed by the state. Authority trumps power!
Our authority is backed by all of Heaven.
When we choose to resist, pray, or declare in the name of Jesus, all of heaven stands behind us. Matthew 18:18 confirms this: “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” While Satan may have limited power in this world, but possess both power and authority. When a police officer pulls over a speeding car or arrests a criminal, it’s his badge, not his gun, that represents his authority. The size of the gun or his firepower is not as important as the power behind the badge he is wearing. The badge represents authority given to them by the city, county, or state which commissioned them. It’s remarkable what authority can achieve—a small policeman can apprehend a large criminal. It’s not about power against power; it’s about authority over power.
A police officers don’t make the laws; they enforce them. Part of their duty is to study the law to understand what they have been authorized to do. It’s the same for us! We don’t make up the law, we simply use the authority that we know and have been given, in the name of Jesus, to enforce God’s word in our lives.
However, you can only exercise your authority to the extent that you know it.
1In Matthew 16:19, Jesus said, “And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” You’ve possess the keys—it’s time to use them!
Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. —1 Peter 2:24
Curious to hear examples when Greg used the authority of God and experienced the supernatural.
